I liked on Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show and Drew Carey, so hearing his story was a real treat. He is just as funny as an author as he is in person. He has that ability to be authentic while being light hearted. I love his take on “Choosing Adventure” and the analogy he uses about being born Scottish, but choosing to become an American. I think this is probably true for most immigrants.

Betty is hilarious. I was never a fan of her in the Golden Girls. In fact, I found the show and her to be utterly irritating. She seems to be appearing a lot in pop culture lately and I haven’t found her too interesting. However, Craig Ferguson speaks highly of her so I thought I would check this out. Betty has a great sense of humor and outlook on life. I can only hope to have such a good attitude and jovial spirit should I be lucky enough to reach her age. My views on Betty significantly changed reading this.

The Simmons family is appealing because they are exceedingly human. I never much paid attention to Shannon or Gene (KISS), but caught a season of Family Jewels and liked how the family interacted. Getting a look into Shannon’s life made it all make sense. Farm girl from Canada longing for more. Lots of good little nuggets about success for life included and some great stories about the playboy mansion and Hugh Hefner.

This book outlines the future of the world of work. Leaderless organizations have a resiliency to perserve. More importantly they are primed to handle continual increasing complexity and change. They are writing the rules of how we will evolve. If you are a leader or trying to make a difference this is a must read book.

Absolutely fantastic book about money. Not only the historical ways of money, but the basics that every US citizen should have a grasp on. If you don’t know what a CDO or CMO is. If you can’t define compound interest. If you wonder how stock options work or what derivative financial instruments are then you need to read this book. It should be standard reading for every high school graduate.

The author really grated on me. He definitely has some funny stories and an interesting outlook on the mundane. He seems too forced to me. Half of the books content was good enough for me to overlook this fact and the other half made me almost stop reading the book on multiple occasions. I may read more of his stuff in the future, but I have trouble really recommending this to people. You will likely love it or hate it.

Umair is one of my favorite thinkers. I will say that I was not as impressed with his long form writing as with his essays, but regardless he is brilliant in his assessment of capitalism, society and the major reset that is bubbling under our feet. Well worth reading to set the tone for thinking about how society is changing.

There was a lot about Buffet that I did not know. I really appreciated a view into his world. His personal relationships and how he views money was more entertaining than I expected. I didn’t think there was enough common ground to have interest in him, but after reading this I really appreciate his thinking.

The content was fabulous. I am not sure I liked the layout and bullet point style. Seemed like too many lists that were too long. Some people might love that format however. Did I mention the content is fabulous? Denning is a thought leader that gives insight into the future of the world of work. If you are an employee remain hopeful that work will get more humane. If you are an employer embrace change or be in for a rough future. Read the book.
